Micro Unit House

For this project, students were tasked with designing a 200 square foot house that could not only function as a stand alone unit, but also as one that could potentially aggregate into a series a larger scheme.

I approached this project by first considering strategies on how to transform a small space into a larger one, resulting in the incorporation of several moving components were into the unit design. This served to create a mobile function condition which allowed the micro unit to contract and expand based on its intended use during separate hours of the day. When fully compressed, the unit achieves maximum privacy and minimal daylight making it perfect for sleeping and away hours, while when fully expanded, the unit achieves maximum light, transparency, and openness, making it ideal for social hours.
